The baby

Do babies move less at the end of pregnancy?

Myth

No. Movements may feel different as space gets tight, but the baby should keep moving as much as before, right up to and during labour.

Believing this myth can delay care. Reduced movement can be an early sign that a baby is unwell.

If you notice your baby moving less, or their pattern changes, contact your maternity unit straight away. Don’t wait until the next day, and don’t rely on home Dopplers.
