Boy or girl?

Can the ring (pendulum) test predict the baby’s gender?

Myth

No. A ring swinging on a string over your belly or wrist moves because of tiny, unconscious hand movements.

Circles for a girl and lines for a boy is a fun tradition, but pendulum movements come from the holder (the ideomotor effect), not the baby.

We found no study that tests this directly, so this answer rests on general biology and the lack of evidence for the claim.
