Do you need to get rid of your cat when you’re pregnant?

Myth

No. Have someone else change the litter tray if you can, or wear gloves and change it daily, to lower the risk of toxoplasmosis.

The parasite in cat faeces takes 1–5 days to become infectious, so daily changing helps.

Undercooked meat and unwashed produce are also sources of toxoplasmosis, so cook meat thoroughly and wash fruit and vegetables.
