Is exercise dangerous during pregnancy?

Myth

No. For uncomplicated pregnancies, about 150 minutes a week of moderate activity is recommended.

Regular exercise lowers the risk of gestational diabetes, pre-eclampsia and excessive weight gain, and helps with mood, sleep and back pain.

Avoid contact sports, activities with a high fall risk, scuba diving and lying flat on your back for long periods later in pregnancy. Stop and seek advice if you have bleeding, dizziness, chest pain or fluid leakage.
